Scans can be classified in three ways CT, MRI and PET scans. Your level of cover for any of these scans is described in the Outpatient section of your Table of Cover (outpatient care is where you visit the hospital for treatment but you don't need to stay overnight).
Login to your Online Account to access your Table of Cover, which will show your level of outpatient cover and confirm which scans you have cover for. You may also need to check your hospital list to confirm in which hospitals or treatment centres you can avail of scan cover. To find your Table of Cover select 'View cover and Documents' on the home screen once logged in. The Table of Cover will be in a document called 'Welcome Letter' or 'Renewal Confirmation'.
For some plans your outpatient benefits will be in two sections - subject to excess and not subject to excess. With cover subject to excess, you will have to pay towards the cost of the scan. For outpatient benefits not subject to excess Irish Life Health pays the full cost of the treatment.
If your scan is carried out in an approved centre (i.e. a scan facility that is covered in the appropriate table for your scan type in your List of Medical Facilities), we will pay the scan facility directly.
If your scan is carried out in a non-approved centre (i.e. a scan facility that is not covered in your List of Medical Facilities) you will have to pay for your scan yourself and claim the amount that is covered back from us, if cover for non-approved centres is included in your plan. You can do this via the online claiming service available in your Online Account.
